Kayaking and Swimming the Suwannee

Distance: 22.4 miles

Time:2 days on the river

Difficulty: Easy

Description:An awesome stretch of the legendary Suwannee River. Go on weekdays to avoid boat traffic. Many springs, most of them excellent for swimming, line this section - including one where you can swim through a short tunnel from one hole to the next. A rusty rotating railroad track provides an out-of-this-world site about a third of the way through. A large island in the middle of the river near the halfway point makes for a good camping spot.

Put-in: SR 51 bridge at Luraville

Take-out: US 27 bridge at Branford

Shuttle: Moderate (30 minutes each way)
